The Estevan Mermaids and Weyburn Synchro Stars combined their best athletes to represent the south east in synchronized swimming.

In just under one weeks time, athletes from across the province will hit the road to North Battleford for the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games.

As for synchronized swimming, Estevan will see eight of their own, including a coach represent Team South East when the games get underway on February, 18th.

"We combined the Estevan Mermaids with the Weyburn Synchro Stars to represent the South East district," explained Coach Brenda Lyons. "We're very excited and a little bit nervous but that's anxious anticipation. The girls have been working for over a year to be named to the team and then we started training together in August. They've been working very hard up to this point and now we have to start trusting our training and know that all of our preparation will pay off."

Representing Estevan and south east Saskatchewan in synchronized swimming will be Hannah Mantei, Nyla Dyck, Caitlin Graham, Marlie Weinrauch, Haley Copeland, Gemma Bittman, Rebecca Duncan and Coach Brenda Lyons.

"It's exciting to represent Estevan at the largest multi-sport event in Saskatchewan. It's exciting that this is taking place during the winter games in Pyeongchang, we get inspired by the performance from our Canadian athletes and we want to go and represent our district with the same pride that our Canadian athletes have at their games."
