This past weekend two teams represented Estevan at a round of water polo games in Winnipeg. The Estevan Sharks boys and girls 14U National Championship League (NCL) Water Polo teams faced teams from Winnipeg and Regina in exciting action. The boys came away with three straight victories and the girls finished with one win, two losses and one tie.

To start off the weekend the boys hit the water on Saturday morning and at half time of their first game they were in the lead 18-2. The boys keep the pressure on and ended that that game with a 29-6 lead over the Winnipeg Bushido Boys. Noah Mvula and Tristan Threinen did a fantastic job in net for this game with Logan Dalziel, Ethan Elliott leading the scoring for the team. Lucas Dzeryk was their defense lead all weekend as he tirelessly stopped many plays at the far end of the pool and converted them into goals for our team. The second match of the day the boys dove into the game with strong defense and scoring that the Winnipeg boys could not touch and the Sharks once again came away with a 23-1 win with Tristan Threinen leading the team with eight goals. On Sunday the boys hit the water early for their final game of the weekend and at half time had a commanding 15-0 lead. The boys confidently swam their way to victory once again with another big win of 26-5. All players on the team including Lyndon Sauder, Jace Carritt, Dierks Milford and Nathan Threinen scored goals in the final game. The boys have played an amazing season so far with a 4-0 record as they work their way towards the Western Canada Finals.

The girls team, made up of mostly 12U players, faced the Winnipeg Neptunes team three times. These 2 teams are very evenly matched, and all Three games were hard fought battles. In the first game on Friday night, the girls swam to a 10-10 tie. Jordyn Tarnes was on fire, scoring four goals. Jordyn's older sister Emily Tarnes and Prysm Gooding helped out by adding two more each. Hailey Hack and Hailey Tangjerd rounded off the scoring by each netting 1 goal. They met the Neptunes again on Saturday morning this time winning 8-5. Jordyn Tarnes dominated again, leading the way with Four goals. Emily Tarnes had a pair of goals. Lily Knoll and Prysm Gooding each had 1 goal.

Saturday evening the Sharks faced off against Regina Armada. The Armada came out very aggressive, taking our girls by surprise. The girls rallied and fought their way through the game, holding the Armada to just 2 goals in the second and third periods, but they could not sustain the pace and lost 16-5. The Tarnes sisters each had 2 goals and Lily Knoll netted one. Sunday morning the girls faced the Winnipeg Neptunes for the final time. Sadie Smith lead the team in goals, steals and defensive blocks. Jordyn had three goals, Lilly two and Emily and Prysm each had one. This was a back and forth battle that the Sharks just couldn't hold onto. They ended up dropping it 13-12. The girls were coached by Mona Hack and Chad Knoll.

The next round of play for all 14U NCL players is next weekend in Regina, where they will face off against their Regina opponents.
