It turned out to be a bit of a trying weekend for the Estevan Peewee Tornadoes in Melville, finishing 1-2-1 in tournament play.

"We struggled a bit. We came out a bit flat on Friday afternoon, we struggled a little bit with pitching, I guess that was our biggest issue at the start of the game," stated Head Coach Ryan Siever.

Although they jumped out front 3-0 in the first period, problems on the mound put walks around the diamond for the Yorkton Cardinals. The next day, the Tornadoes were able to tie the Saskatoon Cardinals in a partially successful comeback attempt. Weyburn was next, and was a solid 15-3 loss on the kids from Estevan.

"I talked to the boys afterwards, just about focusing on every play and making plays in the field right from batter one.  The next morning, we ended up playing the Muenster Red Sox and we ended up beating them 6-5."

Once again, the Tornadoes were down 2 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning, until Mathias Fornwald stepped to the plate with a couple of hits that gave them the lead.

"The thing that we were really happy with was that the bats were working, for the most part we were hitting the ball fairly well throughout the weekend, which was pretty good. Defense was kind of the part that was hit and miss, we played good defense for about two and a half games," said Siever, "The pitching really bounced back after game one, we didn't walk too many guys after that first game, which was nice to see."

"I think we're starting to put it together, with the hitting being a little more consistent and then hitting the ball harder," he added.

The Tornadoes wrap up their regular season fourth in the standings, and head into league playoffs on the weekend.
