Three young baseball players have been handpicked by the top teams in the province to play with them at the Western Canada baseball championships.

From the Southeast A's, Kaiden Lyons has been picked up by the Sask Five Giants to compete at the Bantam 15U tournament in Winkler, Manitoba August 16-19. His home coach, Trent Dorrance expects him to fill the role of pitcher.

"It's going to be a very strong tournament, kind of the cream of the crop for the western side of the country," he noted.

The other two are from the Southeast Twins, Tyran Dorrance and Ty Nikolejsin, who will join the North West Prairie Pirates in the Midget AA U18 division in La Broquerie August 17-19.

"I think they'll do great there. Tyran was learning third base this year, and he ended up becoming a really good baseman, played first base as well. He's got a great arm for it, and he uses his body to keep the baseball in front of him. The big thing is his bat, if he's swinging it well, there's no slowing him down," said Twins coach Blaine Kovach, adding that the kid isn't afraid to take a ball for the team either, with almost 30 hit-at-bats on the past season.

"Ty was probably one of our most consistent pitchers this season. He had a couple of big wins for us, and when he's on his game, he's on his game. He's in the zone, mixes his pitches up a lot and keeps the batters off balance...another asset for him is that he can catch a few games when they need him to, and he's got a good bat to follow that up as well."

Kovach added that the pair will face some decent competition, though not as intense as a national tournament.
