Victories and losses were seen over the weekend on the Woodlawn football field for Estevan Minor Football.

The Bantam Oilers took on the Moose Jaw Razorbacks on Friday, dropping the final score 54-6.

"We turned the ball over three times quick in the beginning of the game, which helped Moose Jaw jump out to an early lead," said Head Coach Paul Duncan.

Depth due to a shortage of players continues to be an issue. Moose Jaw brought 32 players, while Estevan was able to only field 19, which dropped down to 18 after an injury.

"We just kept fighting back. We got a score in the second half, in the third quarter, a nice 35 yard run," Duncan shared, adding that the runningback wouldn't be stopped, "I think he ran over about three or four kids to get to the end zone, which was great to see."

"The kids played really hard, they battled well in the second half and did the best that they could. I think if we had never given up those early scores, the game would have been a lot closer."

Meanwhile, the Atom Cudas pulled out a 25-19 victory over the Moosomin Little Generals.

"Those kids are going to give me a heart attack, it was another close game. It went right to the last play," stated Head Coach Kevin Mortensen.

Estevan held a slight advantage in that they were playing to their familiar 12 man rules, while Moosomin was trying to adapt from a 9 man format.

Although it was a win, the Coach noted some deficiencies they will be focusing on in practice.

"The one thing we really have to tweak or improve on is our defence. We were a little sluggish out there. We need twelve sets of fast out there, getting at the ball carrier be it the quarterback or the runner."

The Cudas are back in action on Friday for a rematch with Moosomin, while the Oilers do the same on Friday with Moose Jaw. The latter plays again on Saturday against Swift Current.
