The Peewee AA Bruins are ready to get to the real deal after wrapping up their preseason on Sunday.

Hosting the Brandon Wheat Kings in inter-league play, they lost that game 7-2.

"We were right with them for the first two periods, it was 4-2 after the second. Then they kind of took over in the third and ended up beating us," shared Head Coach Aren Miller.

"We knew Brandon was going to be pretty strong, coming in. They're always a strong program, they pick a lot of second year kids and I think the team we played yesterday was all second year, so they're big and strong and fast. I thought we hung with them right until the third period, maybe some mental fatigue caught up to us. We just made some mistakes, and they put pucks in the net. As we got tired, we started turning the puck over more and we took some penalties, they capitalized on their opportunities."

The Bruins open their regular season on Saturday against Weyburn, and while quite a bit of improvement has been seen among the youngsters over the preseason, Miller notes there's still work to do.

"We've got a lot of newcomers to this program, playing AA for the first time, so I think it's a big adjustment for the kids. I'm really glad we played the five (exhibition) games, because they're trying to figure out how hard they have to play and play for 60 minutes. You take five or six minutes off, and teams can put two or three by you really quick. I think they learned some valuable lessons."
