Over the past few years, there has always been at least one nurse on maternity leave and with the current number reaching up close to the thirty mark we reached out to the hospital to see if any of the new bundles of joy have been causing any staffing concerns. Sheryl Harrison director of patient services.

"Yeah so for the last two years we have had at least one staff member out on maternity leave, so its really exciting to have our young new staff having their babies now and we actually got some returning to work, what's great about it is that they have been all off and able to support one another. it has been a challenge staffing wise but we knew when we hired all these young people that there going to establish their families here and it's great to have them live in our community.  There are some positives along with a few struggles with staffing and coverage and orientation but its been good overall."

Currently, about 10% of the hospital's staff is on maternity leave. While that may present staffing challenges, the staff sees it as a positive thing.

"It is a positive thing, the girls now have each other to ask those questions, being a new parent can be stressful and this way they have each other to lean on. It's good, it's a nice environment they are often bringing their babies up here for us to see, it's very positive."

On average the Hospital delivers about 350 babies a year.
