Distracted driving continues to be an issue throughout the province.

"Distracted driving offences do continue to rack up in Saskatchewan," explained Tyler McMurchy, media manager with SGI. "In this past month, we saw 526 distracted driving offences including 443 of those for cellphones use."

"That is on the high side but it might be the new normal as police have been catching a lot of distracted drivers over the past year."

He added that those numbers may be attributed to the new laws that went into place at the beginning of last year which clarified that you are not allowed to hold, manipulate, view or use a cellphone while driving

"That makes it very clear what motorists are not allowed to do and it makes it very clear when a police officers sees them in violation of the law."
