Michelle Omoruji, the Regina woman charged with one count of human smuggling and one count of conspiracy to commit human smuggling made another appearance at the Estevan Provincial Courthouse this morning. She was not in court in person.

Her matter was adjourned to August 14th.

Omoruji was arrested April 14 near North Portal when police officers stopped her vehicles. They claim they found nine West African asylum seekers in the vehicle.

The investigation which lead to these arrests, began in December of 2016 and was a joint effort between border enforcement agencies and policing agencies in the U.S. and Canada. On the Canadian side of the border, RCMP, Canadian Border Services Agencies and local police forces in both Regina and Estevan were part of the investigation and apprehensions.
