The deadline to remove your ice fishing shack from frozen waterways in the province is fast approaching and its something that the conservation officers in the area would like to remind us. Kevin Harrison who is a conservation officer here in Saskatchewan shares the details about getting your shack off the ice.

"With ice fishing season winding down, anglers are reminded that all fishing shelters south of highway 16 must be removed by March 15th and shelters north of highway 16 must be removed by March 31st. Every year we see ice fishermen leaving their shelters abandoned on the ice, this can cause dangers to boats and water skiers and other people who enjoy the waterways in the springtime not to mention that its unsightly and can be an environmental hazard as well."

Not complying and leaving your shack on the ice opens you up to prosecution.

"If shelters aren't removed the owners of that shack can be prosecuted and the structures and contents of those shacks will be removed and confiscated."

Fishermen can still have shacks on the ice after these dates however they cant be left there and must be removed within the same day.

"If your going to be out there to get your shack this time of year just be careful out there, Ice conditions change with the weather, when it starts to warm up out there the ice can deteriorate and get pretty rotten so just be careful out there."
