Estevan and the surrounding communities are gazing ahead into the coming months, which are full of projects and plans. The Town of Bienfait always has something on the go, and is excited about the year.

With Canada's 150th birthday also falling in 2017, Mayor Paul Carroll notes that the already popular celebrations will have an extra element this year.

"We always do a July 1st celebration. Part of that is a well organized parade, kid's events, and some entertainment for adults. This year we will certainly focus on Canada's 150 years, and we'll probably gear all of our entertainment and activities towards that throughout the whole day."

He adds that they always have something for young and old, and everyone is welcome to the festivities.

When looking at the rest of the year, he expresses that the council does not intend to change from their existing path.

"We've taken a 5 year plan that was put out by the previous council, and we've implemented some uses out of that. Going forward, we're going to alternate back and forth from year to year between pavement and water and sewer improvements. As need be, we will alter and adjust for casualties like broken lines that need fixing"

He says they don't have any major infrastructure plans in 2017. However, there is one thing on the radar screen for the future.

"We do need to address our lagoons in the years to come. We are hoping to be in line for some provincial and federal funding when this takes place.

He adds that they are looking for partners to come alongside them during that project.
