UPDATE: 2:00pm - Lemuel Alquino

After the incident was dealt with by local authorities, Fire Chief Dale Feser shared more information on the matter.

"Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that the homeowner and all occupants safely escaped the home without injury. Crews encountered heavy smoke when they made entry in the basement area of the home. SaskPower attended the scene as well to help isolate the power in the area for the safety of the suppression crews that made entry."

He assured that the fire was contained in the basement and was quickly extinguished without incident. Little damage was made to the structure, however, the family will be staying elsewhere until repairs are complete.

"The cause of the fire was a compromised main electrical service line by work being done on the home at the time," Chief Feser added.

One of the ways to prevent a fire like this from happening is to be aware of the main electrical service or gas lines before commencing any renovations. He added to contact SaskPower and SaskEnergy before making any repairs that may intrude those lines.
