Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 woman in Canada and that's why October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The goal is to get people talking about the cancer and to work towards catching it in the early stages

Women 50 years of age of older, without a family history of breast cancer, should have a mammogram every two years." explained Manager of the Early Detection Screening Program Jocelyn Smith.

Women with families who have a history of breast cancer should be screened more often at the discretion of their doctors.  Smith says early detection is key because getting that treatment early can be the difference for a lot of patients.

There are a number of ways to access the screening program according to Smith, who says they have clinics in Regina and Saskatoon, along with a mobile unit that travels to rural areas of the province.
