The 2019 federal election is approaching extremely quickly with election day on Monday. Canadians have already broken the advance poll's record with 4.7 million people already putting their votes in.

Over the week, we have been profiling candidates on the Souris-Moose Mountain ballot.

Travis Patron, the leader of the Candian nationalist party, spoke about his main concerns during this election.

"Speaking about the economy in particular, what we would like to see what resonates with a lot of people we talk to in this district is a publicly managed oil and gas investment trust. We're taking a look at what some of the European countries such as Norway have done with their natural resources, and they've actually taken a portion of the revenues of that and put it into a publicly managed investment trust that they are then able to use to subside the social services such as health care or transportation and more. I think that would actually be a fantastic idea."

Patron also spoke on the issue of taxation.

"Speaking of the carbon tax, we don't see a reason the have tax on carbon at this point in our countries history. We believe that such a thing will reduce the economic competitiveness of Canadian industries and it will also pass down the additional costs of average Canadians it will not be absorbed by the large corporations, the additional cost will be passed on to the average consumer."

Patron added that they believe that Canada was never meant to be a highly capitalistic society but it rather puts more emphasis on the social value of our communities. This meaning we will be able to provide basic services to people that are in need as well as subsidized healthcare, transportation, and a number of other things.

The DiscoverEstevan Newsroom has not heard back from Javin Ames-Sinclair of the Liberals or Judy Mergel of the Green Party. We will have a profile on the NDP's Ashlee Hicks soon.
