Visitors to the Energy City are now welcomed by a new sign as then enter the city by Highway 39 west.

"The whole derrick infrastructure, we did a bit of upgrading to," explained Rebecca Westling, Communications Consultant for the City of Estevan. "We added LED lights last year and then this year, within the budget, we added a new signage just to kind of re-brand and work with OTS (Estevan Oilfield Technical Society) and showcase that derrick in a better light."

She added that this is a part of a larger effort to try and spruce up the city.

"We're trying to get all aspects of the city and the derrick is a big part of the city and we wanted to give it a little bit of a scrub."

She mentioned that the derrick has been a part of Estevan for many many years and hopefully it will last for many years to come.

"The derrick is a big infrastructure in our city and people who have never seen it that are are driving through, don't really know about oil or derricks, they like to stop and look and take pictures so why not spruce it up a bit and let people get the full effect."
