Last week, the City of Estevan held an informational open house to share their plan to annex land from the RM of Estevan.

"We had just shy of 30 people in attendance," explained Adam Norquist, the City's Land Development Officer, "and that included residents of both the city, the RM as well as council members from both the city and RM."

"There was definitely a lot of questions from the residents and a lot of confusion surrounding what goes into the annexation process and lots of apprehension towards the proposal. But throughout the night, people had a clearer understanding of what we were proposing and the direction that we were going."

"I would say most of their questions were answered and they have a better idea of how things will be proceeding."

He added that going forward, there is another chance for residents to voice their opinions.

"There is going to be a public hearing on October 23rd during the open council meeting. This is when the RM or any of the landowners and either voice their support or opposition to the proposal. After the public hearing, moving forward, we have a couple different options."

"There is definitely some opposition to this right now. However, we believe that there is opportunity to work with both the landowners and the RM and find a mutual solution to this annexation."
