When it comes to the weather warming up, it's hard to imagine only a few weeks ago we had temperatures dipping down in the minus 30s. But there are a few kids at Westview School who experience those colder temperatures on a regular basis.

Emily Wasacase and Keegan Littlefield, volunteer to help with Safety Patrol to make sure that each person at the school makes it home safely. Rain, Blizzard, or shine they help out. Emily shares a bit more, "Safety Patrol has been a little bit tricky while it has been out, but if you dress appropriately it will be just fine. Like Ski-pants, scarf, hat, mitts, and regular boots." Keegan goes on to mention, "It's been tough with all of the cold recently, been hard volunteering all the time but we've gotten used to it."

Each of the students has a reason as to why they volunteer in the cold Emily, "I like to volunteer becuase you never know what can happen to little kids out there, because there might be a car that can't stop because the roads are so icey, they might know when to stop cause there so little. So off the bat, you have to slow the cars down, and cross the little kid. And that's why I like doing it so much."

Keegan shares, "Safety reasons, help all the kids and staff here to get home safe," he goes on to say why it's so important to him, "There family loves them and they have friends here, it would be horrible to see a kid from Westview pass away."

Next time you are driving by a school zone on a cold day, thank the kids who volunteer out in that cold weather to make sure your child makes it home safely.
