With the bitter cold that we underwent over the previous week to ten days, it led to the question of when and even if it is possible for weather conditions to cause the school to close.

Lynn Little is the director of education for the Southeast Cornerstone School Division and said it takes a lot for a school day to be canceled.

"It's very very rare. The school remains open for students who are able to attend as it is a safety mechanism. So if students arrive at school on a bitterly cold day, it is crucial that it is open for their safety.

Another topic of conversation is bussing for students.

Typically speaking days that busses do not run stems from them simply not being able to turn over in the morning.

The Temperature has to get down to around minus 40 for bussing to automatically be canceled for the day.

"In our policy, if it is minus 40 ambient or minus 45 with the windchill it will lead to automatic bus cancelations."

Luckily for parents in Estevan, they won't have to worry about the bitter cold this week leading into the Christmas break as temperatures are expected to get near zero during the workweek.
