The Estevan Envision and Counselling Support Centre usually hands out gift cards to its clients and those in need. However, this year, they have run out of those cards.

"So we usually have quite a stack of gift cards to hand out to our clients and to people who are really in need at that moment," explained Tania Andrist, at Envision. "A woman who has come in and she needs to flee, go to a hotel or go to a transition house. We often just give her gift cards  for gas or gift cards for Walmart so she can go buy some essentials before she leaves, or if she's trying to provide her child with diapers or all these essentials that you don't think about when you're fleeing a dangerous situation.

"And it turns out, this summer, we've run out."

"So we're just starting this very specific and quick campaign to ask community members if they can out. If they have a gift card that they're just clearing out of their wallet or something that even partially used. We don't mind.

"Or if they feel that they want to go pick up a gift card and drop it off in one of our mailboxes, call the office and we'll give them instructions on how tho make that donation."

She adds that any store gift card is welcomed but cards from bigger stores and gas stations are particularly helpful since they can be used in different communities since many women go to transition house out of town.

"Something like Co-op is really helpful because they can buy gas with that, or if there's necessities they can get at the grocery store."

"Envision right now, functions as though it is a transition house. If a woman has issues or is experiencing abuse, she can come to us and we will help transport her to a location. Envision does not have a place for women to stay, though at times we use local hotels and then we find them space in the closest transition house which would be Moose Jaw or Regina."

"People in Estevan and surrounding communities are always so generous and maybe it's something they don't even realize. We're just so appreciative, the generosity of our community, without donations, we wouldn't be functioning the way we do."
