The Estevan Police Service is excited about their newest addition to the force.

Michelle Pickering is a familiar face, and a familiar name to many, as she was the Bylaw Enforcement Officer in the City of Estevan for 3 and a half years. Now she is a Constable, after being sworn in at last Thursday's police board meeting.

"We're pretty proud and happy to see her in this role," expressed Police Chief Paul Ladouceur. He noted that her former position can often be a tough one, as nobody likes to get a parking ticket.

"She's done a good job. She's certainly displayed the right attitude and work ethic moving forward, and she will be an asset to the community in her new role as a police officer."

Pickering will leave for the Saskatchewan Police College for approximately 6 months of training, after which she will return to Estevan, working under a training officer before she is sent out on her own.

"We're really, really happy when we can hire from within and see someone progress from within our own organization, which we have with Michelle," Ladouceur said.

She went through a rigorous interview process, involving mental aptitude and physical testing, in which she impressed the higher ups.

"I can tell you that there is no doubt that there was other police agencies that were certainly very interested in hiring her as a police constable. Should she not have been selected as a candidate in this community she would have no doubt been a police officer elsewhere. We're pretty happy to have her here."

"She is very, very community orientated, and that's one of the biggest things that has stood out for us, is that she is always out there volunteering, and that is a big part of the fabric of this city," added Ladouceur.

"She values this community, and I think she'll do very well here as a police officer."
