They generous spirit of Estevan showed itself once again on Wednesday, as the community came together to lend a hand.

It was the United Way's annual Day of Caring, a day for people to take time and work on a project for someone who was unable to get it done.

"As always, it was a good day. It was a little breezy, but we didn't get any showers until around 4:00, when we were winding up," noted Wendy Gustafson, Co-Chair for the Day of Caring committee.

"As a board, we are always excited to see our numbers go up and this year we saw an increase in projects and volunteers."

She said that there was a concern for the last couple of weeks that there wasn't enough volunteers to go around, however, the final push produced results.

Last year they had 36 projects and 149 volunteers. This time around saw 185 individuals volunteer for 45 different jobs.

"It's so exciting to see it growing and see the people that are becoming involved in it in different ways," Gustafson expressed.

The day also included a BBQ lunch at the Estevan Alliance Church with a great turnout.

"It ran really smooth. We didn't have long waits, people were able to come in, get their food, sit down, take a break and enjoy socializing with everyone."

Enthusiasm ran unbounded among those who gave up their time to assist others.

"I think the participation means a lot to the community, and it was great that our company was able to split into two teams and the whole office take part," stated Mathew McGillvery, an accountant with MNP and one of those who engaged in painting corral fences at the Exhibition Grounds as a part of the occasion.

"It was a great day and I'm glad we've done it. I've been a part of it for the last three years, so I think that it's nice to be able to give back to the community."

Both volunteers and organizers expressed that they were looking forward to next year.
