While most residents in Estevan were in bed sleeping, mother nature was busy brewing up a thunderstorm early Wednesday morning.

The rainfall associated with the storm saw around 15.4 mm recorded at the Estevan airport station.

"Through Tuesday evening a cold front was working its was eastward across southeast Saskatchewan," said Environment Canada's Brad Vrolijk. "Shortly before midnight thunderstorms started popping up around the area and slowly moving eastward that lasted until early morning hours."

He also mentioned the possibility of a few more showers and thunderstorms late Wednesday morning into the early afternoon. Moving into the latter half of the week, a change in the weather pattern will be seen as temperatures are expected to rise.

"It looks like a return to a generally sunnier pattern with warmer weather returning to the region. Mid week last week we had an omega block develop over British Columbia. It's a very stable weather pattern that brings prolonged periods of the same kind of weather to a region. Over the past week its been very hot over BC and It looks like that pattern will shift to the east with warmer air expected to build over the next 5-7 days," Vrolijk concluded.

Although 15.4 mm may seem like a significant rainfall, just last month we received the monthly total of 24 mm in just over one day.
