Estevan Scouting is looking forward to the start of another season of outdoor adventures and instilling community values in the next generation. KayC Schroeder, the local Group Commissioner, explains that Scout Canada’s Mission “is to instil confidence in young people, along with taking them on adventures and giving them outdoor adventure skills.”

She adds that what the local chapter does, insofar as outdoor activities during the season, depends on what the specific group is interested in trying.

There are three age sections for Scouting here in Estevan; The Beavers (who meet weekly on Mondays from 7:00 – 8:00), The Cubs (who meet weekly on Wednesdays at 7:00 – 8:30), and of course The Scouts (who have weekly meetings on Tuesdays from 7:00 – 8:30).

Among several other annual events like backwoods hiking and camping, the senior Scouting section also meets one weekend a month to participate in a group activity, whereas both the Beavers and the Cubs meet several weekends a season for a group activity.

Schroeder is excited about the upcoming season and encourages interested parents and youth to visit the Estevan Scouting table at City Wide Registration on Thursday, September 6th from 5:30 – 8:30 PM in the Estevan Leisure Centre Multipurpose Room.

She also invites any interested young adults and young-at-heart adults to inquire about volunteering with the club, saying “We are actively looking for more leaders this year. We love the youth and we have more youth every year than we can take in because we do not have enough adults willing to help us out.”
