It has been an interesting spring and summer in the southeast for those involved in the agriculture industry. Some have been hit with timely rains, while others have seen their crops suffer due to the poor growing conditions.

In the Torquay area, Rodney Phillips is one producer who has felt the effects.

"It was a very dry and hot summer with not very much moisture at all. Everything is well below average."

"Harvest is on the way. Guys have been combining peas and I think most of the pea crops are probably done around here. Lentils are being started on and maybe a little bit of durum.

Despite being bone dry over the spring and summer, the Torquay area did receive a rare rain fall earlier in the week which seems to be too little, too late for most crops.

"I guess the rain is welcomed in a way. It may help some soybeans that guys have planted, but other than that its probably just some moisture for the land at this point."

"It's just all below average," expressed Phillips.

This growing season can be chalked up as one of kind for the land of living skies and depending on where you are in the southeast, mother nature has been kind to some while others haven't been so lucky.
