Estevan, Lampman, and Torquay are among a number of places that will receive joint funding from the governments of Saskatchewan and Canada for infrastructure projects.

Over $50 million in investments for 55 different projects was announced this morning.

"From Buffalo Narrows to Estevan, and dozens of communities in-between the Government of Saskatchewan's $16.4-million investment in these 55 local infrastructure projects will not only help protect local economies, which are continuing to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also help create safe, healthy and prosperous communities across the province," Saskatchewan Government Relations Minister Don McMorris said.

The City of Estevan will receive $1,517,600 in federal funding, $1,264,540 in provincial funding, and will cover $1,011,860 for a pedestrian corridor expansion project.

The joint release stated that this will "Create approximately 13 km of new pedestrian walkways interconnected with existing ones. Install one washroom facility, a footbridge, 15 benches, solarpowered path lighting, and safety and accessibility improvements to street and railway crossings."

The Town of Lampman is receiving $205,882 in federal money, $171,552 in provincial money, and will provide $137,272 for a rink upgrade, as the compressor room needs an electrical upgrade.

And the Village of Torquay will see $83,860 in federal funding, $69,876 in provincial, and provide $55,914 to replace the roof, rafters and ceiling, boiler system and its components and install new flooring at the Community Centre.
