The Redvers Fire Department is thinking proactively when it comes to fire prevention. National Fire Prevention Week is the second week of October, but in Redvers, they will observe this public safety week a month early in September.

Brad Hutton, from the Redvers Fire Department, explains “We’re going to do Fire Prevention Week the second or third week in September with our local schools. The theme this year is ‘Look, Listen, and Learn’ because fire can happen anywhere.”

Hutton shares that it is critical to educate students on fire safety and that this year they are adding more resources to help with that mission. Sparky, the Fire Dog, will be included as always, but they are also adding a new character, Blue, to help demonstrate the importance of ‘Look, Listen, and Learn’.

They will be working with students from Kindergarten to Grade Six.

Hutton also reminds the public that smoke alarms are to be replaced every ten years to remain effective.
