It was Heritage Week in Saskatchewan. The provincial government proclaimed February 20th to 24th as a week to get out, learn about and celebrate Saskatchewan's unique and varied past.

"Heritage is important for everyone to learn about," noted Souris Valley Museum Director and Curator Mark Veneziano.

"Having two museums in town as well as other organizations that promote culture in Estevan makes it great to showcase how the City of Estevan developed and how that reflects into the future."

He added that having the stories of pioneers and early settlers really shows how we evolved into a city.

Vaneziano said that, while the museum is closed right now for expansions, they plan on having it open for the occasion next year. He shared what he expects it will be like.

"What I see for Heritage Week in Estevan in the future is a place where local residents can come to the Souris Valley Museum to learn about early settlement and why people settled in this area, as well as those who were here before European settlers even came."

"Having our museum opened up year round will allow the community to come and celebrate together learning about the past," he expressed.
