The risk for grass fires continues to increase with each day that we don't get some significant rainfall.  Over the course of less than a week, another 22 fires have been reported in the province, taking the total for the year to 94, well above the five-year average. There's a chance of widespread fire bans being issued across the province ahead of the May Long Weekend in order to mitigate the risk.

A risk map released Monday by the Ministry of Environment shows nearly the entire province is at a high risk or extreme risk of wildfires due to a lack of moisture. The southeast area falls into the extreme category right now.
