The Estevan Humane Society held an adoption drive on Saturday, August 19.

"It's hard to judge the success right away because our adoption process takes a little bit of time," explained Jane Howard, at the Humane Society. "You have to apply, and we make sure the animals are going to the right homes. But we did have quite a few people drop by both the shelter and Pet Valu and take a look at our animals and pick up an application, drop off applications."

"We also did a fill the truck event as well where we had people dropping off donations of food and litter and that went quite well for us as well."

"Easily we did probably about $1,000 worth in donations of food and litter alone which for us is quite a boon. We go through about a bag of litter a day. And now with more than eight dogs in the shelter, and about 50 cats, we're going through quite a bit of food as well."

"That 's not including the donations that were dropped off at the shelter as well."

And while it was quite a success, Howard knows that the supplies won't last long.

"We always need cat food, dog food, and non clumping litter. We also happily take donations of things like paper towel, bleach, all purpose cleaner, even garbage bags."

If you would still like to help out the Humane Society, she has a few options.

"If you can, adopt. If you can't adopt, volunteer, if you can't volunteer, give, and if you can't give, educate. So by all means, if you're looking for a pet, come on down and see what we have. If you have the time, we need dog walkers, people to help out with kennels, occasionally we need people to help out at events like fundraising. And we encourage the public, the very best thing you can do is to educate your friends and family and your community at large that it it important to make sure that your pets are spayed and neutered and vaccinated."

The Estevan Humane Society is currently selling tickets for their upcoming Duck Derby.
