Ice hockey and the cold are just some of the many things that most of us Canadians have in common. However when the two mix it doesn't always make for the best conditions. temperatures below the -20 mark can cause problems for outdoor ice rinks, we contacted the president of the Kins Club James Jones to find out what have things been like out at Kins Park.

"We have been pretty fortunate with the park committee and the help from the local kinsmen and kinettes. We have tried to maintain it as best we can given the cold weather that we have had. Ultimately we try to keep the snow off of it and when the weather cooperates we try to get down as many fresh floods as we can to try to keep the ice in strong working condition."

The cold conditions didn't stop the public from enjoying the rink, according to Mr.Jones people still braved the weather to get some hockey in.

"We have been really happy to see every night when we drive by you see lots of youth and young adults out on the ice surface. I think the bitterly cold weather we experienced last week maybe limited the number of people that are out on the ice surface but ultimately as Canadians, we seem to be pretty hardy we get out there and still enjoy the ice hockey or skating whenever we can."

Caring for an outdoor rink is more than a one person job and the kins club is grateful for all the help it has received.

"We are really fortunate that there are some community members that live around the park that have stepped forward to assist with snow removal as well as doing the flooding. We really appreciate the help from the community. We also had lots of support from Rod March over at the city and people are coming over, many hands make light work. So we have been able to keep the ice in reasonable shape this year so we're really happy to see that."

If your looking to enjoy the ice rink this winter it can be found down by Hillside school located in Kinsmen Park.
