Impaired driving continues to be a major concern accross the province. In Estevan, the May long weekend saw two motorists who were arrested for driving while impaired.

A 27 year old male in Estevan was arrested and charged for impaired driving over .08 along with a 20 year old female who was arrested and received a 72 hour driving suspension after police got a call about an impaired driver.

"There was a province wide blitz throughout the weekend and numerous services around the province were doing the same thing we were doing in Estevan," said Estevan Police Chief Paul Ladouceur, "It's unfortunate because there was way too many impaired drivers who were picked up over the course of the weekend in Saskatchewan."

"We're still fighting this battle and we shouldn't be. In this day and age people should know better than to get behind the wheel when they've been drinking."

Just as police services across the province ramped up spot checks this long weekend, the Chief says to expect more spot checks moving forward.

"Expect to see more of us out there more frequently as we push through this summer."

Not only will those spot checks be on evenings and weekends, but with previous impaired drivers being apprehended at different times throughout the day, spot checks will be done sporadically in the daytime.

"You'll see those spot checks at different times throughout the day as we've charged people in the past at 7:30 in the morning and in school zones."

"Driving is a privilege, not a right. The one right that people should have is to know there isn't any drunk drivers on the road they are travelling on."

"Expect to see us out there a lot," added Chief Ladouceur.
