Sirens rang out in the Energy City just after 10:00 PM on Saturday night, as local emergency services raced to an accident scene outside of town.

It was a two vehicle collision that took place at the junction of Highways 18 and 39, west of Bienfait.

"A west bound SUV had collided with a south bound car at the intersection. The male driver of the car, 35-year-old (Bisho Kalappurakkal) of Estevan, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 28-year-old male passenger in the car was also injured and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries," said Sergeant Earl LeBlanc with RCMP Media Relations.

The 59-year-old female driver of the SUV, Debra Hamann of Bienfait, has been charged with the following offences;

One count of Impaired Driving Causing Death,

One Count of Drive While Over .08 causing Death,

One Count of Dangerous Driving Causing Death,

Hamann's next court appearance is August 14th in Estevan Provincial Court.

"For the families involved, Victim's Services has been engaged in the situation as well," LeBlanc added.
