Estevan's Economic Development Board announced today there was another new venture on its way to the city as Tomahawk Energy Services is preparing to build an indoor agriculture facility in Estevan. Construction is scheduled to start in Spring of 2021.

“This is not an ordinary greenhouse,” said Derrick Big Eagle, CEO at Tomahawk Energy Services, “this design and larger scope along with the concept plan has the potential to address food insecurity issues throughout our province, as well as nationally and internationally.”

The technology inside this facility will include geothermal and solar technology, with robotics and other technology still in the design stage. Much of the project will be the work of Evolution Growers, a new company under the Tomahawk Energy Services umbrella.

In addition to addressing food insecurity issues on a broad spectrum, this project has the potential to create a lot of employment as well. There will be entry-level jobs there, according to their release, and robotics specialists will be needed as well.

“Our Economic Development Board has been working hard to foster an environment that encourages new and unique businesses to open in Estevan," said City Manager Jeff Ward. "Projects like this will play an integral part of our economy's success in the future.”
