Conditions in Estevan are suitable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

"Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Southeast corner of the province," explained Regional Meteorologist Terri Laing.

"We're expecting some showers and thunder storms to develop over the next few hours and the atmosphere is just right so that some of these might just become severe. With these types of thunderstorms lightning is always dangerous, we're also looking at strong winds and the possibility of large hail."

The watch should be over by tomorrow.

"It should be over the next couple hours into the early evening, after that they'll move into the Manitoba area and out of the province," she stated.

People in Estevan and surrounding areas should be on the look out for unfavorable weather conditions and take the necessary safety precautions.

"We always ask that people have weather awareness when they're out and about, especially if they're doing outdoor activities. We know we have a lot of rural areas out there so people are farming and ranching and doing construction and stuff. We always ask that people keep an eye on the sky and what weather is doing and to pack things up before the storm hits as opposed to waiting until it hits, that's particularly dangerous because lightning can spit out ahead of thunderstorms. We ask people to take cover, get inside, get in your vehicle and wait until the storm is over."
