The New Estevan Regional Nursing Home Committee, may be playing the waiting game, but they are not staying idle. They announced that they have started a letter writing campaign to the Government of Saskatchewan in an effort to encourage the government into kicking in their share of the money needed to start construction of the the badly needed facility.

"It's a letter addressed to Mr. Reiter, the Minister of Health," explains Don Kindopp, Chair of the New Estevan Regional Nursing Home Committee, "and in it, we've written a letter that we think expresses the sentiments of all residents of Estevan in that we feel that we need to replace the Estevan Regional Nursing Home as soon as possible."

"We need a replacement that deals more with today's philosophy of centre-elder care."

Right now, the nursing home in Estevan consists of a small room, open toilet with only a curtain for privacy and one small dresser to serve as storage for their belongings.

Kindopp hopes that enough people will send letters that the government will be forced into action.

"The citizens of Estevan are concerned that now that we raised our required 8 million dollars, nothing has happened on the replacement of the nursing home. People have been asking and we want people to know that we are still working on this."

The committee will also be at the fair this week to promote their letter campaign.

"We'll hopefully have a table at the fair as they enter the fair grounds. And stop by and talk to us and we'll show you the letter and we'll answer questions anyone might have about the nursing home."

"And it's also planned at various events throughout the summer to have Wally, that's our mascot, with us and go to these events and allow people the opportunity, if they wish to express their opinion, they're asked to sign their name and address and any comments they wish to make in regards to replacing the nursing home."
