Moose are regularly spotted in our area, but do you know what to do if you come across one in the city?

Conservation officer Lindsey Leko shares some advice on what to do if you encounter a moose, "The big one is just people keeping their distance, we've all heard the news of the lady who was recently attacked by a jaguar in a zoo, while taking a selfie. She got too close to the enclosure and now she is probably full of stitches as a result of that."

Leko goes on to say people don't realize taking a moose selfie can be dangerous, "The moose is doing what it naturally does, you know if something was coming after my kids I would defend the same way. They are not doing anything out of the ordinary, it's just they are large and unpredictable. And they can do a lot of damage if they get on top of you, they'll just start stomping with those hooves and the end result wouldn't be a good one." He adds you are mistaken if you think you can outrun a moose or simply take a picture from a close distance.

"Just keep your distance, report the sightings to the police or us (Conservation Office), and we will come and monitor it, and even after we monitoring and we are trying to move it out of the city we just want to be able to do it safely for everyone and the moose as well." He adds officers attempting to remove a moose have been hampered greatly by people trying to take pictures.
