MLA for Regina Douglas Park, Nicole Sarauer was elected on Tuesday night as interim leader of the Saskatchewan NDP.

The move follows the resignation of former leader Trent Wotherspoon on June 13h, as he makes a decision on taking a run at becoming the full time leader next year.

"She's still fairly new at provincial politics," explained local MLA Lori Carr. "I think it will be a very interesting year for her with the leadership race that will be taking place."

"With the budget that the Saskatchewan Party brought down, people were not very happy with that to start with. I think people are realizing that these steps need to take place now so that in the future our children are not paying for our debt," she stated.

Carr passed along her congratulations to Sarauer, and wished her the best of luck in bringing the NDP together.
