If your weekend plans involve you driving to Regina, you should know that the passing lanes between Regina and Corinne on Highway 6 are now open.

“We are excited to see the first set of passing lanes open up on Highway 6,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Lori Carr said.  “Passing lanes improve safety and traffic flow and the response to the addition of more passing lanes in Saskatchewan from first responders, municipalities and drivers has been overwhelmingly positive.”

This marks the completion of the first set of passing lanes on Highway 6. The government expects another set to open next week, weather permitting. In total, 16 sets of passing lanes are being built between Estevan and Regina along Highway 39 and Highway 6. A short section on Highway 39 is also expected to be twinned.

“This is a major trade route for Canada and the U.S. and we are very pleased to see safety improvements to the Highway 6 and 39 corridor,” South Central Transportation Planning Committee Chairperson Lee Finishen said.  “We look forward to working in conjunction with the Government of Saskatchewan on improvements to other corridors in the area including Highway 2 north of Moose Jaw.”
