The Estevan Police Service was out in full force on Grad night, ensuring that, while celebrating, people were finding a safe way home.

Check stops were set up early in the evening on Friday and ran into the early hours of the morning on Saturday, and the officers were largely pleased with the results.

"We didn't have any major incidents, which is always good to see. It sounds like everyone enjoyed themselves safely and was responsible," said Police Chief Paul Ladouceur.

"As far as the check stops go, we unfortunately ended up with two impaired drivers. Again, this is why we're out there so frequently doing these, is that people still aren't getting the message that it's not okay to drive while under the influence."

"We'll keep those check stops going until we see that we can run them with zero incidents. There is so much to lose from impaired driving, and people need to realize that there's just too much risk to jump in behind the wheel impaired," he added.

"You can expect to see us out there again all summer long, and it won't just be evenings and weekends. It'll be various times, where we're scattering those checks during weekdays and, in fact, during daytime hours as well."
