With the Yellow Vest Movement and the United We Roll Convoy weeks behind us, it can be easy to forget that people took to the streets in protest of what many consider the federal governments attempt to stymie the oil and gas industry. No matter what the government's reasons for the carbon tax and bill C-69 many in the province see it as a job killer and all around just bad policy. That became even more apparent on Saturday when a small group of protesters gathered outside city hall here in Estevan to make their voices heard. I stopped in to talked with them and they had an all to familiar message.

"Basically were protesting about the carbon tax and how it's going to affect everybody and get the pipelines built so we can get our oil to market," said Bill Clemments who was one of the men protesting.

While the group on Saturday was small they hold the protest every weekend and people come from all around our little corner of the province, with people as far away as Francis making the trek down to stand shoulder to shoulder with the protesters. The main goal for the protesters is to see the carbon tax and bill C-69 scrapped but they also mention how they wouldn't be too broken up to see a new federal government in charge. It remains to be seen if any of these protests around the country will have any impact on the upcoming legislation but with the continuing protests in the community, it goes to show just how opposed people are to the new laws.
