While the provincial budget that was released on Wednesday has many people at all levels upset at it's implications, there are those who aren't concerned at all for their operations in the aftermath. One of these is the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure.

"We fared pretty well. We did obviously see a reduction in some of our funding compared to last year, but we're still the second highest budget overall for the Ministry of Highways," related the Minister of Highways, David Marit.

"We were very engaged with the treasury board and the Ministry of Finance on what we deemed was important for us as far as what our dollar allocation was moving forward. We sure didn't get what we wanted, but we can still do a significant amount of work to improve the rural highway network in Saskatchewan," he added.

He expressed that, overall, he is pleased at the amount of money coming to their department to enable them to make progress on their priority projects.

At the top of the list is the twinning of Highway 39 between Estevan and Bienfait. As it will not be significantly affected by the recent changes, it is on track for a timely finish.

"As far as we are concerned, the project is on time and on budget. We're hoping to see it completed by the end of the year."

Many other roads across the province are also slated for improve throughout the year.
