February 6th, 1919, Buffalo New York was the scene for the beginning of an organization known as Quota International, originally as a public service club for women similar to the ones that men had at the time. In the past hundred years, the club has grown to include men as well, spreading its reach to cities in fourteen different countries, including Canada and our own home in Estevan as part of 270 clubs.

As part of the celebration, the Estevan division has been building up by having their members do a total of 100 acts of kindness for people in their community, and they capped things off earlier in the week with a performance for those at Creighton Lodge.

"They've been coming for the last four Mondays and they've been playing bingo and games, cards with the residents and just having some fun getting to know them and showing their kindness with the young and the old together and it's been a real blast," says President of Quota Estevan Valerie Hall.

The Quota Club International in Estevan is smaller than some, with some of their members joining only back in September, but their impact is always felt. The group of young volunteers has done wonders for their community.

"One of the highlights they had was back in November when they fundraised to ship five local military men a care package at Christmas time. They've also got a basket at their school that's called the 'Kindess of Warmth', they brought toques, mitts, socks, and they've kept their fellow students warm during these cold winter days."

Hall adds that the students in the club have also made donations towards the salvation army food bank among some of the acts the students have taken action towards. While some have chosen to take undertake challenges of their own to better their community, they've also had some team efforts together.

"They all have at least ten acts of kindness they have done, so we've actually exceeded between all fourteen of the kids and where some did a little less, the others were able to step up and help them out."
