The Redvers Fire Department is looking at a new piece of heavy rescue equipment.

"We're working on a grant," Fire Chief, Brad Hutton, "to try to get some heavy rescue equipment to improve our fleet."

He added that there are several firefighters in the department who have received training in heavy rescue.

"It deals with heavy tractor-trailer units on the highways, semis, oil tankers, etc. For the most part, we have all kinds of equipment to deal with light vehicles, but we don't have anything to deal that can actually lift and move semis and tractors."

The equipment can cost around $22,000 - $23,000 for hydraulics and proper safety equipment for the firefighters.

"It would be something nice to have. Traffic is not slowing down on the highways and equipment keeps getting bigger and busier. We want to be prepared for anything."
