By now the Estevan Police Service has likely gotten pretty good at dealing with scam calls. After all, they seem to be dealing with new ones all the time, ever since COVID-19 first hit the province.

The newest report of a scam came on Monday, July 27, as they got a report of an email that appeared to be from a business in the southeast. The author of the email pretended to be an employee of the business who needed help buying iTunes gift cards.

This is a common trick of scammers, asking for gift cards as payment rather than actual money. In this case, the scammer told the complainant they would send them money via e-transfer as soon as they got the gift cards. Luckily, in this case, the complainant realized the email was a scam and did not do any of the things requested, but rather forwarded the information on to police.

That same night, police were called to what they are calling a disturbance. The complainant called wanting an individual removed from the residence. Police attended, but the person left before they got there. Patrols of the area in an effort to locate the unwanted guest did not turn them up. Police did not say in what area of the city the call took place.
