For the first time in three weeks, it appears a significant storm could arrive in the southeast.

Just after noon on Tuesday, a severe thunderstorm watch was put into effect for Estevan and surrounding RM's including Benson, Cambria, Cymri, Souris Valley, and Weyburn.

"Thunderstorms will form along a cold front that's sweeping through the southeast area," explains John Paul Cragg, Regional Meteorologist with Environment Canada. "The main risk with these thunderstorms would be hail and strong winds, and heavier rain is a possibility."

Cragg says the storms will persist across southeast Saskatchewan towards southwest Manitoba, but should end before midnight and clearer skies for Wednesday.

"Today, it's not a perfect setup for severe weather in the southeast," adds Cragg. "But thunderstorms could upgrade to a more severe criteria for extreme weather."
