After taking a much needed rest following the King Street rehabilitation project, construction crews are back at it, working on fixing up the transportation surfaces of the city.

The latest project is on Sister Roddy Road, and while it's nothing major, it is greatly needed.

"We're just connecting the asphalt that ends north of Nicholson Road to Wellock, about 100 to 150 meters. We're not going too far," stated City Engineer Kifloum Weldeab.

"It should be done this week. Hopefully they will finish the basework on Thursday, and then paving on Friday. However, you never know until it's done."

He said that a lot has been done on that streatch over the last few years, resulting in it being some solid ground. Thus, little base preparation is required. They will simply level the gravel and compact it, then add a second layer and pack that as well.

"On top of that, we will install about 5 inches of asphalt, which will be laid in two lifts."

Weldeab concluded that, while the detours associated with projects like this are an inconveinence, they can be thought of as Estevan's growing pains.

"We appreciate the cooperation from everybody. The citizens have been wonderful, and I would like to thank them for their patience."
