The Southeast College is continuing their commitment with the University of Regina to provide education in the region.

As a part of this, students can now take their first year of U of R classes right here in the Energy City.

"The classes that are available will be delivered face-to-face in either Estevan or Weyburn, however, people won't have to go to those locations. We will be offering everything via live technology as well, so students will be able to come here or possibly dial in from their home computer and view their lecture in real time," explained Sheena Onrait, the Marketing and Communications Manager for the College.

"It's a really great opportunity for local learners to be able to save some money. We estimate that first year students will save about $10,000. That's predominately living expenses such as rent when you move away from home, gas to put in your car, groceries and entertainment."

In addition, the first 10 students to register for 3 classes or more receive an entrance scholarship. Although that's nothing new, the value is noteworthy.

"Normally our bursary amounts are $500, but we've upped the ante for our university students to $1,000. That pays for just over a class," Onrait said.

"It's pretty substantial when you calculate all those cost savings together."

She shared that registration is now open for classes, with the deadline set at June 30th for entrance scholarships. Students that are accepted to the university simply have to choose their classes through their U of R portal.
