The community came together on Saturday to start a friendly competition.

The Battle of the Gardens is a contest to see who can grow the best vegetables, with the two participating teams including the seedlings and the shrubs.

"It's a nice learning experience to grow something from seeds, especially if you're not used to growing and you don't know anything  about gardening,"said Stephanie Davis, the programs director of the event.

They will take pictures periodically because different vegetables will harvest at different times, then the judges will pick the winners  from the photos.

There is a wide variety of produce that will be sprouting such as carrots, lettuce, spinach, onions, parsnips and turnips.

"It's really nice to see the community come together to help participate and the keep these events going," Davis stated.
