The Estevan Police Service continues to do their job in looking out for the community and keeping those inside of it safe.

One area of focus for Special Constable, Jose Newton, is the removal of anything obstructing city sidewalks this winter.

"It falls under the traffic bylaw in Estevan." Newton said. "Clearing snow and removing ice or any obstruction from the sidewalk has to be done within 24 hours of the last snowfall."

The first offense carries an $80 hit to the pocketbook, which you can avoid by simply clearing any walkway. With that in mind, Newton said that they don't intend to be idle when it comes to handing out fines.

"We've been trying to be proactive by giving people notices and educating people that there's a bylaw so we don't have to issue a fine. There is a fine if it does come to that point, but I'm hoping by being proactive and giving notices we can keep it away from that step," Newton concluded.

Up to this point, there have been no fines handed out.
