Traps located around Estevan, on July 11, have located mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus. This has promoted Medical Health Officer, Dr. Lanre Medu to advise residents of the Sun Country Health Region to take more precautions.

"Now the risk of West Nile Virus is beginning to increase," he explains. "I would advise residents to take additional precautions to reduce infection form the West Nile Virus."

They have come up with a simple way to remember how to protect yourself: "The 5 D's"

Use a bug spray with Deet

Drain all standing water

Avoid being outdoor at Dawn and Dusk

Dress in clothing that has long sleeves and pants.

He goes on to explain that symptoms of West Nile include a low grade fever, muscle pains and presents much like a mild flu. 

"The most signifiicant thing that you tend to see in West Nile is that it presents with some nuerological symptoms." But he adds that those sympots are very rare.
